A building permit is an authorisation to start work on a building project. An index based on these permits is likely to give a good indication of the workload which the building industry expects in the near future. However, this may not be the case where a high proportion of permits is not used or there is a significant gap between the date of issue of the permits and the start of work. The share of dwellings in apartments authorised among all authorised accommodation provides information on the potential annual production of flats in a collective building (apartments) in relation to the buildings of a single dwelling.
