People aged 65 and over predicted have a fall, by age and gender, projected to 2035 Figures are taken from Health Survey for England (2005), volume 2, table 2.1: Prevalence and number of falls in last 12 months, by age and sex. A more recent study Gale C, Cooper C and Sayer A, 2016, Prevalence and risk factors for falls in older men and women: The English Longitudinal Study of Ageing, Age and Ageing; 45: 789794 suggests that prevalence rates remain similar to the above. The prevalence rates have been applied to ONS population projections of the 65 and over population to give estimated numbers predicted to be have fallen at least one in the last 12 months, to 2035. www.poppi.org.uk POPPI v11 April 2019 Crown copyright 2018
